Nantahala River, NC

Nantahala River, NC

November 3-6, 2005

Went fishing with a group of guys from the shop, and left Spencer to hold down the fort. Had a great weather, great fishing, and awesome accommodations. The cabin was sweet; it was so warm we didn’t even stoke up the fire in the cabin.

Got there on Thursday afternoon fished that evening everyone caught fish. Checked a few of my favorite holes and landed a nice 17 incher. Water was clear and somewhat low but there’s a lot of fish. That evening the beer and the food was as good as the fishing that afternoon.

On Friday we were on the water early in A.M... Fished midges early and everyone was consistently catching 12” fish with a few 16”+. Thom keyed the fish with a red size 18 midge and never looked back. The quicker you got the fly down the more successful you were. Started searching for fish in the skinny riffles with a white streamer and landed another 17”+ Rainbow. Albert hit the big fish of the day with an 18 ½” Rainbow. Used the new Measure Nets we got in the shop to check the length, what a cool deal, you gotta check these out. Not many people on the water all day. Plenty of room to fish on the river. The day was finished out with several more good fish.

Saturday on the water early as well and began catching fish right away. Weather was still good and fishing was great. Landed a nice 16” Brookie which was pretty cool. Butch mastered the dry flies later in the afternoon and was slaying them on a tan Elk Hair Caddis size 16. Ken made it in late on Friday night and had a great time picking up fish throughout the day Saturday. Drank more beer that evening while tying flies and watching college football, it doesn’t get much better.

Went back to Cincy about Noon on Sunday after fishing in the morning. This was a great trip, thanks to every one who went along. If you haven’t had the chance to go you’re missing out. Looking forward to the Spring trip sometime in March. Stay in touch with the shop if you want to go.

Carp On,

Bobby
